Mike,

I work not far from where your potential job is located. In about 45 mins due west, you'll be in an area where you can have all the land you can afford and 90% of it can host as many martins you care to keep up with. If you have other questions, feel free to PM me 8)

Saw the same thing on Tuesday Matt. But I had a proud female that stayed in a gourd after the "loosing" female few when the system was lowered. I opened the gourd lid and I swore she winked at me! Never left the gourd as I finished my inspections and raised it back. I saw her finally poke ...

I would say I'm seeing the same as Emil. I haven't seen any SY's as of yet, but they are hard to spot with the short time I've had to view my colony. But I'm guessing I have about 35 pair, probably more, at this point and that seems about right. Lots of martins have been arriving for the last week. ...

Hi Gary! I just saw my first male on Tuesday and my first female this moring. However, I would just reminder you that it is still early in the migration, so don't panic even if you typically see martins in late January or early February. Still a lot of martins to move through the area and this time ...

Tim, why not buy a new ground stake and be done wth all the trouble? :???: Guess that's not possible and too easy, but that's what I would do. Actually, that's what I did! I moved over the winter and when leaving, I just cut the old sleeve as low as I could, covered with dirt, and you couldn't tell ...

Hey A.P.!!! I'm not sure about how they are doing or what they've seen along the coast this week, but I've picked up a bunch of new birds this week. I would say I've about doubled in numbers over the last day or so. That's going from about 8 to 16 pair. Hard to tell with gourds still available and a...

On my gourd porches, I have seen nestlings out on the porches about a week before they fledge. They like to go out and sit and watch what's going on. As I walk around the setup, they quickly scurry back into the gourd and have come close to knocking each other off the porch. Moreover, I have...

Thanks for the link Tree!!! I believe in the past, I have been to the site, but not recently. I've had my trap on a pole out in the open, since I have no trees, but will move it back under the eave now that I've read the article and the martins have returned. I've made a recent adjustment and as a m...

Great news Jean!!! Glad to hear your season has begun!!! Isn't great when they arrive. I looked out tonight and saw four martins flying around but had to leave for life group and could not watch them come in. But I'm hopeful that I now have 4 staying here. Take care and sleep well !!! 8)

A huge congrats Dick!!! A few more suggestions for you Sherrie. When I switched my housing to go up and down an EZ Lift, I just took ppca and put a thick coating on the inside of the edges which touched the pole. This kept the edges from splitting and it also had a smooth surface to aid the movement. However, you may too m...
