Just a reminder that we have our annual Greater Houston Area Purple Martin meeting this Wednesday night at 7 pm in room 153 in the college center at Lone Star College-CyFair(formerly CyFair College). I look forward to seeing each of you (especially since I was out of commission last year) and I strongly encourage you to bring samples of anything that would help each of us become better landlords. We learn so much from each other!

Our guest speaker will be Dr. Jessica Armenta, our newest biologist at Lone Star College-CyFair. She will give us a 30-45 minute presentation on ultraviolet color within purple martin feathers. Her graduate research focused on this area and I know her presentation will be fascinating. We love to bring new birders into the fold here at LSC-CyFair!!!!!!!

Feel free to bring some of your favorite home-made snacks to share with the group. I will bring soda and other beverages for the event.

Again I look forward to seeing each of you and hope we have another great meeting!

hi Tim,

I hope your meeting goes well, sounds like a very interesting topic. Maybe someone will fill us in about it afterwards.

I definitely will Louise! Jessica has done a lot of research in this area so I know she will bring a lot of fascinating information to the group. Emil Pampell and others also bring a lot of the neat designs they have created for their housing. It should be a lot of fun!!!!!

I would like to thank everyone that came out to our meeting yesterday. We had a very productive meeting with some great information on gourds (entrances, maintenance) presented by Emil Pampell, Adam Romain and Bert and Jean Stipelcovich. We also discussed our 2008 purple martin bird banding success and what we were going to do in 2009. Clay White is our bird bander.

Jessica Armenta presented some fascinating research on ultraviolet coloration in purple martins and other bird species. There were a lot of great questions following her presentation. It seems our martin friends appear a lot brighter to each other than what we see!!!

I hope everyone has a great purple martin season this year!

A big thank you Tim for taking the time to schedule the meeting, have a speaker, and provide time and snacks for us to meet and share knowledge of purple martins.

I applaud your efforts to continue holding GHAPMA meetings over the recent years encouraging those with like interest to meet and share experiences. Thanks again Tim, great job!!!..........Adam.
