Martin Colony History: Erected 1st house in 1997. Birds were checking it out before Mike got down from the ladder. Six cavities had a little colony 1st year. Grown to 88 cavities all gourds with near 100% occupancy. Most important factor for success is rain = bugs.

Yayyyy!! It works!!

This photo is from our trip to the Sharpstown Roost on July 30, 2005. We were standing pretty close to the original 7 trees of the roost and when I snapped this shot directly overhead I could see the swirling vortex formed by the PMs as they dropped down into the roosting trees.

Awesome!

Oh my! Laverne, it's good that those specks and swirls are martins, not noxious insects!

You are so right, Louise. But, if those were insects wouldn't the Purple Martins have a feast?

... and the Chimney Swifts, and the Barnies, and the Cliffies...

even the nighthawks...

Oh my gosh! what have I started here. The PMCA forum is going to be flooded with pics now that I taught a few people how to "post-link" photos. :)

and what would be wrong with that, Sam?

I have always loved looking at everybody elses photos of the fantastic world of the Purple Martin.

I think this will help "everybody". Now, it will be even easier for a landlord to snap a digital photo of something he/she wants to fix and post it to the Forum and ask for ideas and/or help.

...but, you may be right ... next season we're gonna see a million shots of everybody's first bird, first pair, first nest, first egg, first hatchling, first feathers, first fledglings... whew!

It's gonna be great! Thanks Uncle Sam!
