Martin Colony History: Erected 1st house in 1997. Birds were checking it out before Mike got down from the ladder. Six cavities had a little colony 1st year. Grown to 88 cavities all gourds with near 100% occupancy. Most important factor for success is rain = bugs.
This photo is from our trip to the Sharpstown Roost on July 30, 2005. We were standing pretty close to the original 7 trees of the roost and when I snapped this shot directly overhead I could see the swirling vortex formed by the PMs as they dropped down into the roosting trees.

I have always loved looking at everybody elses photos of the fantastic world of the Purple Martin.
I think this will help "everybody". Now, it will be even easier for a landlord to snap a digital photo of something he/she wants to fix and post it to the Forum and ask for ideas and/or help.
...but, you may be right ... next season we're gonna see a million shots of everybody's first bird, first pair, first nest, first egg, first hatchling, first feathers, first fledglings... whew!
