A friend of mine found out that I was trapping starlings and house sparrows and mentioned it in conversation one night at a party. As it turns out one of the attendees at the party was a falconer. The falconer quickly asked what I was doing to dispose of the birds and requested my contact info.
After talking to me he informed me that he feeds his falcons starlings (frozen) and actually has to pay for them at the local raptor center! He asked if he could provide me with a live cage to place all of my captured birds in and he would stop by twice a week to pick up the birds! All I have to do is trap them - he takes care of the disposal.
For those of you out there that may not have the "stomach" to dispose of the birds, you may want to consider this as a viable option. You could call your local falconer's club and ask if anyone would be interested in your birds. Or if you have a raptor center, you might even want to check with them.
Do I get a star on my forehead now or what?
