Starling Trap

It’s nearly time to bring the houses down for the season. Why are thoughts about replacing one of them with a S&S starling trap.

Sounds good. Controlling the Starlings and Sparrows is a year long job. Everyone you take out of the gene pool reduces the numbers so I say go for it. Just make sure you dispose of them and don't think driving 20 miles away and releasing them is going to help.

I am not sure the nesting cycle of starlings in your area, but I haven't seen any in my neck of the woods showing any interest in housing lately. I see flocks of them in my yard and on the powerlines but haven't seen one trying to get into a house since late spring early summer. If you had the place for it and a way to get rid of them, the Troyers V trap is the way to go. You can catch tons of them. You just have to sort out the native birds that find their way into it. I have so many starlings in my area I no longer try to get rid of them. I just rely on SREH There are times there are literally thousands of them at a time. I have seen them so packed together on the powerline across from my house that the lines sag way down.
