Thanks all for the comments,

No, he did not come back for the night. After he left this morning at 9:30 he didn't return all day. I know, I took the day off to watch! He may be back tomorrow. I'll just have to wait and see. I'm not sure where I'll wait yet. Bed, Yard, Bed, Yard, Bed, Yard,. So many decisions!

Kathy, I had an ASY pair stay 2 nights last year and thought I struck gold. I don't think the female was comfortable here for some reason.

As for the pictures, I can take them, but I have no way to post any.

Talking with my mentor today, we came up with several scenarios as to this ASY showing up this late. Could be that the elderly ladies birds got tired of waiting on a female. Or possibly someone lost their housing in this last storm. It was a doozy. We had winds up to 70 MPH

I can't begin to express my gratitude for all the support I have received here. I know that this is a small step toward having a colony, but it's a step in the right direction, and a big step for me! Thanks to you all!
Tony

THanks Stretch

Well, He did show back up this morning, and a few of you were right.

HE BROUGHT A GIRLFRIEND!

He's doing his best to show off one of these nice BO11s but she seem to be skittish of the decoys. She's done a touch and go but no land & look yet.

Now, work, stay home, work, stay home? What to do?

Don't be surprised if they don't spend the night the first couple of days. The first time I had PM's staying at my site they would leave in the morning and be gone a lot. As the days went on they would spend more and more times at my place eventually staying almost all day right before they started building nest. I would say by this weekend they will be hanging out and have a cavity claimed as their own. Like I was told, having an ASY male stay is like an instant colony. You might be well on your way. If him and her stay then the subbies that show up will be a lot more likely to stay at your place when they arrive.
Good Luck

Tony,

I had the same scenario last year. My martins did not like my decoys, which my older son named Pete and Repeat. I think the decoys made them come take a look (as well as the dawnsong), but they would not land until I took my decoys off. Maybe you might take them off for a day and see what happens? That is, if the birds seem skittish.

Hi all,
Well she did finally land this morning for just a minute. Then I had to leave for work and I don't know what went on after that. When I got in my truck they were both soaring over head. I put my wife in charge of watching, but she said she didn't see anything. She thought she heard him out there but when she looked she didn't see anything. When I called she said "I don't know the difference in one bird from the other when they're flying like you."

I'll be in the yard this evening waiting to see if they come for the night. I'm not real optimistic, but I never expected him to show up with a female ether. We'll see :)

I'll be gone Turkey hunting in the morning at daybreak, so I'll turn the dawn song on before I leave. I don't know which will be on my mind more! Turkeys or martins!
Tony

lucky,
Thats a negative on the bacon. Heard 3 gobblers and saw 1 hen. Thats as close as I've come this year with turkeys and as close as I've been in 5 years with martins. What a good week!

diane,
Thanks for the kind words I know you and LOTS of others have been rooting for me for a while now. It looks like it may take this time!
Yeah, that was me you heard hollering. What crick? I'm laying in the yard flat of my back staring strait up! No crick for me

Tony,

You were probably surrounded by a flock of 50 or so turkeys and didn't even notice. I'll bet your mind was on your martin housing.

CONGRATS!!!! And definitely keep us posted! I'm sure you will.

Hey Gobbler-T,

Everything is right with the world----Visiting Martins, Turkey Hunting and Crappie Fishing. Put them in any which order that makes you the happiest  :!: Today it was turkey hunting then martin watching for me. Although I must admit I wanted to be watching martins while I was hunting.
Enjoy the passions,
Bill
