I don't know where you are in Mich. but I'm in Blissfield and I have a colony of about 80 pair every year. I fledge over 300 birds every year so hang in there and I'm sure some Mich. birds will come your way. Good luck.

2" of snow this morning, unbelieveable. I went out this morning to check on my martins to see how they were doing with this late winter snow storm and they were on top of the gourd racks preening themselves. I have about 30 birds back already and they were flying around in the sky like it was 7...

Night guard protectors

About eight years ago I could hear a great horned owl at the back of my lot in the neighbors evergreens. I put up four of these night guards on the top of my one gourd rack, facing all four directions. I haven't heard the owl since and I haven't had an attack either. I know its hard to prove somethi...

Night guards

I have had the night guards for about 3-4 years now. I bought four and mounted them on a piece of sheetmetal and mounted them on top of one of my gourd racks. I didn't have any owl predidation before but I had heard the owls hooting at night so I put up the lights as a precaution. I have not had any...

I was hanging gourds on no. 2 rack tonight with my granddaughter and neighbor kids when what do I hear? The familiar sound of the purple martin. I looked up in the sky and there was the beautiful sight of an asy male martin hovering high up above us. I pointed it out to the kids and they were sure e...

solar nite owl guard

I have had the solar guards up for about 4 years now. I have them on top of one of my gourd racks facing the four directions and have not had an owl attack. Now I can't say that is the reason I've had no attacks, it could be just luck. It was advertised as being used on pheasant farms to keep predat...

It's cloudy and 47 degrees here with a chilly east wind. Its suppose to get warmer for the next few days but the end of next week is only suppose...

Martins in Michigan

Thanks Lou. I put up two gourd rack full of gourds and Friday night we had a pretty severe storm come through Lenawee County with 65 mph. winds. It sounded like a freight train with horizontal rain. I was concerned that my gourds would be blown down by the time morning came, but everthing faired pre...

Martins in Michigan!

I saw my first male ASY martin this morning at 8:15 am. sitting on top of one of my gourd racks wondering why I haven't put up my gourds yet. I had planned to do so this weekend. Its a light drizzling rain now. He looks good and is flying around having a good time. Hooray let the season begin.
