Dick-So sorry to hear about your snake loss. I'm glad it wasn't a bigger snake that could eat more!. The bird net snake guards do work. I caught my first (and only) snake with a bird netting trap just last Wednesday. I had a 2 foot PMCA "stovepipe" type guard on the pole, topped with my ho...

Thanks Louise. I just looked outside, and, didn't see the fledgling. I went outside and looked all around and couldn't find it. I know it was safe from predators on the deck, so, I am hopeful that the parents found it, and, had enough energy left to fly back to it's home-about 40 yards away. Jodie :)

Premature Fledge-Help

We just finished a nest check and found two 23-day old fledglings had wondered from their home in the neighboring cavity to a vacant "next-door" cavity. Fearing that the parents would not feed them (since they are not in their correct cavity), my husband tried to move one of the fledglings...

Yes, ours have been bringing in multiple dragon flies for over the past week. Both ASY and subbie parents are doing this. We live near Lockhart in the country.

Help with different sized new babies

Just completed my weekly nest check and have a problem with different age chicks in the same nest. Nest A has 4 6-day olds, and, 1 2-day old. Nest B has 4 4-day olds, and, 1 2-day old. Nest C has a 6 day old, and, a 2 day old. I have a gourd with 4 2-day old chicks. Nest A&B have all the older c...

Is there any type of birth control product that could be fed to the sparrows/starlings? It could be fed to the birds while caught and in a cage/box. Since the sparrow/starling can not be killed at many public sites, at least their reproduction could be stopped for at least one season after they are ...

House Sparrow, Martin, and, BB wondering...

House sparrows are the bane of purple martin and bluebird landlords. The Bluebird website (Sialis) discusses the use of monofilament (fishing line) in certain locations on a bluebird house as a temporary deterrent to sparrows. Monofilament bothers sparrows, but, does not bother bluebirds. How do mar...

Heath Door Panels

You can glue Sintra Clinger entrances (from S&K Manufacturing) to the Heath Door panels, BUT, you first have to widen the openings on the Heath panels. (I used a Dremel to do this.) This winter, I also modified my Heath houses (using instructions from the Archives) on how to modify a Trio house....

I made a typo. The camera is a Nikon P-510 (not P 150). The new model is the P-520.

Camera question

Update: I just returned from Best Buy & Wal-Mart. Nikon apparently is updating the P-150's by changing where the view finder is attached. There is no change in the models otherwise, and, where the view finder is attached is a non-issue for me. The stores are putting the older models on sale, and...

Malcolm-Thanks so much for your suggestion and link for the camera. I have been searching the web today, and yes, this is definitely just what we are looking for. Camera question

This is our second year as landlords and we are looking for a good digital camera for the martins, AND, other wildlife. We are in the country, our Martin houses and gourds are about 30 yards from the house. Right now, we have wild turkeys who are flaring their tail feathers and strutting about 150-2...

We would love it if no one has spoken for it yet! We live in Lockhart in the country, and had success our first year. We could sure use the S&S controller on our sparrows. I think there is a way to send a message, and, since I'm new, will be sending it ASAP. If not, I'll contact you again on the...
