House sparrows are the bane of purple martin and bluebird landlords. The Bluebird website (Sialis) discusses the use of monofilament (fishing line) in certain locations on a bluebird house as a temporary deterrent to sparrows. Monofilament bothers sparrows, but, does not bother bluebirds. How do martins react to it? Sialis also discusses the use of "Sparrow Spookers" (thin mylar strips that are positioned on the top of a bluebird house). If this does not frighten martins, something similar could be used over martin gourds. Since many martin landlords also keep bluebirds, I thought I would ask. I'm sure if either of these two strategies helped martin landlords with sparrow control, we would be using them.....Does anyone know?
Thanks,
Jodie
