We still have some snow on the ground here in North Dakota, but my son and I went outside today and got the Purple Martin housing ready.

I had an ASY female and ASY mail pair who had five perfect looking eggs this year. All five were completely infertile. The female incubated those eggs for at least 20 days and then gave up on them. The pair stayed around until the remaining colony flew south for the winter.

If the martins return late like last year, then I have six months to wait. Yeah... May 1st.

Wow, things aren't going so well here in Grand Forks this year. First Buffalo Gnats, then cold nights, and a couple rainy days resulted in many dead young. We have had six nests with all bad eggs or eggs that died before hatching. I don’t like losing so many. Sad news…
