Congratulations on your good year. Hope next year is even better for you.

Get that martin population increasing in North Dakota. I am sure that you probably have some down years like everyone else due to the weather.

Were you affected by the gnats or whatever they were 2-3 years ago? It seemed that a good bit of the upper mid west was.

I like the numbers on the house sparrows! Wonder what the estimate would be for the total eliminated, figuring the young that they would have added to the countryside by late summer.

A couple of years ago I had bigger losses. I don't know if it was the gnats or the cool weather as both coincided. I checked the birds yesterday and found two young dead or missing. The nests have started to fledge and flight training has begun. I did not do nest replacements this year because of the hot / rainy weather. However, the nests are remarkably insect free with only a few lice on one natural gourd. It has been such a pleasure to have this birds, but as soon as they fledge I am happy to see them go as the Cooper's Hawk visits are becoming frequent. I love to see them go just as much as I love to see them come back. My beloved brazilian friends.
