Re: East Texas Landlords - Anyone still have active nests?

Hi all, Sorry for abandoning the thread, had to travel. We fed the baby Sunday night and went out and checked him and fed him again Monday morning. The crew was hanging around trying to get him to fledge and he looked strong enough so since we had to leave, we decided to force the issue a little. We...

East Texas Landlords - Anyone still have active nests?

We moved last year and have been working on starting a new colony. This year we got one ASY pair and aside from a bout of nest mites, we got through the season with little drama. We had six hatch and they started fledging last Thursday. We had lots of birds hanging out around creating chaos during t...

Triangular poles

Hi all, Bought a new house with two horrifying msrtin houses chock full of starlings. One was the telescoping pole from nature house with the house on top where the pole goes through the middle. It's completely frozen The other pole is triangular and still somewhat lowers up and down but the was pla...

East Texas Landlords - Lake Palestine Martins

Hi All, Looking for a place on the water on Lake Palestine. We see lots of martin houses around on the waterfront but don't seem to see any that look inhabited and haven't seen a lot of martins in the air. Lots of cliff swallows under every bridge, that's for sure. Anyone out there live on the lake ...

Need parts for a multi-purpose pole

Hi All, I have one of the big multi-purpose poles that was originally built by CUE (Diane Oberlander), the 3" square aluminum pole. It's a champ and has been awesome but I have one problem now I'd like to try to figure out how to solve. The aluminum hub that hooks to the cable and goes up and d...

Re: Dallas Roost :: Active and huge

Well sadly the page linked above was never updated but the North Texas Group did update a different page on their site to indicate they were having their martin event last weekend. Naturally I saw that after it was over. :-( It didn't clearly indicate that the roost was still at the movie theater bu...

Re: Dallas Roost

Here is a link with the directions to where it's been the last 2-3 years http://purplemartinlandlordsofnorthtexas.com/events/roost/ I've not seen anything to indicate if they are there this year or not. I'm confident they are somewhere in that general vicinity because I live about 20 miles north of ...

Dallas Roost?

Anyone spotted the Dallas roost yet? Martins are streaming overhead going south each evening, it's got to be out there.

Still at the movie theater?

DFW Landlords Repeating Sparrow Trap Available

I don't use my repeating sparrow trap because I have more luck with Spar-O-Doors in my Trio houses so it needs a new home. Probably kind of late to use this year but will be good next winter for someone. Hopefully someone in the DFW area wants it, I'm not too keen on trying to box it up and ship it....

Back in the day, my martins used to arrive spring break week, (this upcoming week) and we never had these super cold weather issues. Last few years they gave been earlier and earlier, this year was the earliest ever and this weather was unbelievable. Sadly I'd say all the ASY's in North Texas died e...

Finally a break in the weather in the DFW area. Only supposed to get in the 40's tonight (28 last night). Highs in the 50's with rain so still slim pickings but hopefully they'll do OK till mid week when normal weather returns. Right before the weather went so bad we had seen a few martins but did n...

How do rehabbers feed adult martins

Thinking about all these cold downed martins. If the rehabbers force feed them until they are a little stronger but not yet ready to release, will the martins eat live crickets on their own in a cage if they are not trained to eat dead one from the ground. Seems like it would a tremendous amount of ...
