Re: Off the wall idea
Unk Bond, I think it is great that you like sharing with all of us. I like hearing about the new ways to house purple martins that you come up with. I’m so thankful that you want to help others enjoy these beautiful birds.

Re: Nest Mites
Thank you for the article. I put a little under the straw before the Martins arrive. Not enough to blow around. But enough to kill the mites if they get in the nest. But I will reconsider the matter.

Re: Nest Mites
You could use diatomaceous earth. It is safe for you and the birds.

Re: Territorial Battle while establishing 2nd colony
Oh my! That was hard to watch. I didn’t know that they fought like that. It looked like they were trying to kill each other.

Re: Aggravating Starlings
Flyin-Iowa, here is the picture of the house with the round wholes. I did see one starling squeeze into my gourd house. I covered them back up for a little while. I have opened them back up now. There is a pair of starlings that kept coming back so I put a rat glue trap in it and one must have got c...

Re: Aggravating Starlings
I just added the gourds this year. No Martins have taken to them yet. The Martin house has 12 Martins in it and I have one other house (no pictures) that has round holes. I have 6 Martins in it.

Re: Stupid starlings
Thank y’all so much. I’m going to check into that Van Ert trap. I have 18 Martins this year. I only had 4 last year. I’m so excited. I don’t want anything to happen to them. They are such a joy to watch and listen to.

They don’t seem to be bothering the Martins as of now. But I’m afraid of them doing it later on. What do you think?

Re: Starlings
Thank you Spiderman, I looked up the Van Ert box trap. I think I may do something like that. I put the covers back on the doors and they went away for now. I have another Purple Martin house in the front of my yard. I had purple martins in it last year and was not bothered with the starlings. I have...
