I use a tuna size can that I screwed to an electric fence post from Tractor Supply. It has a spike on the bottom and you can push it in the ground with your foot. I start with it near their house and then move it closer to my window. I feed them live mealworms when I feel that the parents are strugg...

I came home from work today and had 2 more female sparrows in the trap. Before dark, I caught another female and 2 males. Once you get a female in the center compartment for bait, the trap is awesome. I have water and food cups secured to the sides to keep the decoy lively. I use a mesh laundry bag ...

Baited trap
I have 24 nest compartments. Yesterday, I checked them and had 21 martin nests and 3 sparrow nests. I removed the sparrow nests. I have a 2 compartment bait trap on the pole under 8 gourds. I put some dried grass in the trap. I caught 5 female sparrows today. I caught 1 male earlier in in the week, ...

Used Trio for Spar-o-doors
I would like to buy a small Trio house that I can use with Spar-o-door traps. If anyone has an old one laying around that you would like to sell, please let me know. I am near Corpus Christi, Texas. Thanks!

I have no problem with disposing of sparrows. If in doubt, just look at a nest of 5 half grown baby bluebirds that have been tortured and killed by a male sparrow as I di back in March. When I first moved to this house, I built and installed a 16 hole martin house and it filled with martins the firs...

How do you remove sparrows from trap?
I have a Songbird Essentials Sparrow Trap. It is the one with 2 trapping compartments and a center compartment. Any ideas on removing sparrows without them getting away? I caught a male this morning and he didn't go to the center compartment. I took it in my Utilitiy room and sure enough, he got out...

Thanks Caroline, the Spar-o-door comes with a plastic tube that has a couple of clips to attach it to the entrance. After you attach it, you turn the wing nut and the trap door opens. The sparrow then flies into a plastic bag held on the tube with a rubber band. Tapping on the house will get them to...

Sparrow trap experiment
I built a sparrow trap out of a plastic tote from the Dollar Store. I used 2 Spar-o-doors mounted on the inside of the box. I wanted to build a more permanent trap house or find an old Trio house, but decided to give this a try. I put a piece of 1/4" plywood in the bottom to reinforce the botto...

My Bluebirds raise 3 batches of babies per year normally. 13 total last year and 11 this year. I look in the nest daily with no problems from the parents. I even watched the second group fledge this year. It was awesome. I also have a birdbath close to their house and see a lot of action there. Last...

You will enjoy them. My pair just started laying their 3rd clutch of eggs for the year. After the second batch hatched, something happened to the male and the female was feeding them by herself. About 3 days later, I saw a male show up and the female ran him off a couple of times, but he finally mad...

I have to go back to the drawing board. I had the male in the trap this morning. He was in the nest and wouldn't fly into the mesh bag I had over the entrance. I popped the door off and tried to remove him from the nest and only ended up with a few tail feathers. I was sick. I will figure something ...
