the only thing i can say good about the heath houses is that the martins like them. they prefer them over my super guords and natural guords. makes me mad but thats what they do until the heath compartments are filled up, then go to guords

repeating box trap

this winter I made 2 of the chuck abare type repeating box traps and don't know how I lived without them. catches any starling that stops by and just sets itself again. if you haven't made one yet try it. my bluebirds can get out but starlings are caught. missouri martins back

Had my first scout of the year today. I figured with the warm weather and south west winds they would come. Not many bugs yet but it will be a while before most birds get here to the truman lake area. usually about 2 weeks if the weather holds. It is so dry that some rain is needed to bring out the ...

blue bird distance

I have had bluebird boxes for 20= years and find that sight of each other is as important as distance. have at least four that are within 100 ft of each other but out of sight by being behind a barn or brush from each other. works for me and we see at least 20 bluebirds daily. having houses for year...

repeating trap mod

i made 2 repeating traps for starlings. followed chuck abares plans for sparrow trap but modified for starlings. in the bottom of the cage he has a wooden circle to plug the wire mesh trap bottom, instead of cobbling a escape hatch for blue birds, etc. in the side, I put a 1 1/2 hole in the bottom n...
