Re: Old PM Heath house- looking for parts
Kelly, Thats a trio house. Good old one too. You can try looking up Erva Nature house, then on the left side click on wild birds, then purple martins. Erva took over the houses. Its plenty worth re doing. I re did one of these recently. In fact, if you cannot find a winch I can send you one, comple...

Old PM Heath house- looking for parts
Hello everyone, Someone is going to gift me this house for a project I’m working on. The house is said to be around 20 years old and they haven’t been able to get martins. I believe it is a Heath house, and while doing research it looks like they have discontinued this house or I did not find it. If...

Fledgling martin wing— having trouble flying looks sprained/dislocated at elbow
Hey all,
We just came across a young martin trying to fledge on the ground. It appears they sprained their elbow somehow. Any thoughts are appreciated. They are currently sitting on a porch.
Thank you
Kelly

9 eggs!!??
Hey all! It’s been a while since I’ve posted, so hello 👋. There is one horizontal gourd nest that has 9 eggs. It’s the largest clutch I’ve ever seen! It’s not a re-nest from a cold snap, so what caused her to lay so many eggs? I know I’m probably going to be doing a lot of helping the parents...

Re: Wing Entrapment Survey from PMCA
I’ve had wing entrapment only when they were fighting. I’m going to put in wing entrapment guards this winter and see if they make a difference next spring. It only happens in the early spring.
Hope this helps!

Badly Injured Martin
This Martin was in a fight with another Martin and got severely injured. His eye and around his eye is swollen and red. And his shoulder is bloody. It’s not bleeding right now so that’s kinda good. Any info appreciated. What ointment could eye put around his eye? Saline? Can I give him sugar water i...

Cool! I wonder if it would work on my scope. It's not on a gun, just on a tripod. I'm always trying to make my phone focus and get just right using the normal eye piece.

Purple Martin Conference, 2019 past season, martins arriving in U.S, etc
Hello Everybody! Who is so excited about martins down in FL and LA? I am! My martins don't usually arrive in KS until the 1st of April. Who is going to the purple martin conference in Norman OK? I think I'm going, but for me it's the later end of fledging time and I don't like to be away during from...

Punctured Egg and Green Stuff in Nest?
Hi, So as you can see this egg got pecked by a house sparrow, about two days ago. I thought the parents were going to take it out, so I left it. Well now the egg is beginning to mold and there’s this green stuff in the nest. Are these insect eggs or is this mold? (You can see it in the picture, I th...

Re: House Sparrow problems
Thank you for your responses! I can see them sitting on the porch that has the trap inside. The HS haven't been filling the cavity like they normally do. They put a little bit in the cavity, and they been using close to the same nesting materials as the PMs. So it's trickier to tell them apart. I ho...

update:
I watched for a while and HS was going in and out of this one cavity so I set the trap in there. I'm pretty sure that martin did not claim it, hope I catch the house sparrows.

House Sparrow problems
Hi all, I’m kind of in a predicament here. I’ve got HS attacking my martins. HS was nesting in the roof of my box and I put tape there to block them from getting in the roof (this is a 12 room trendsetter) Now they are throwing a fit and attacking my martins and trying to get in any cavity possible....
