I also have a few pairs still feeding babies. Have no way knowing whether they are late or have second clutches. The behaviour of returning to the site in daytime is a little more than normal I believe. Will be happy to hear of any new roost site.

Another Tulsan
Everyone is welcome here, too - 3800 W 71st Getting old and forgetful and no Sevin in gourds - keeping fingers crossed. I believe that I have about seven pairs this year and lucky to have them with too many trees near. Couple of weeks ago I saw a Sharp-shinned being chased by lots of martins and he ...

A surprising year
Dick, et al. My birds were late in coming but I have about 5 pairs now. I have a hypothesis for the strange behavior. I think that the birds suffered during the late winter snow and cold and that the survivors were in need of food. For this reason mine are not congregating on the gourds as usual but...

Off again, on again, gone again, Finegan
I had my first bird, actually 3 or 4, on Mar 16th but they left again the first day and only occasionally return one or two at a time and don't remain. A neighbor down the street has the same syndrome and I have never seen any such thing in close to 30 years of martins. I was crushed that they left ...

How to scare away martins
I have a bluebird house with a feeder tray about 10 feet from my gourd pole. After my martins (3) appeared on 2/16 later I went out to feed worms to the BBs. I guess I scared the martins and I haven't seen them since. Note to me: stay away from the pole, let the BBs feed themselves. I am not vomitin...

Pole and gourds
Cheryl S,
My cell phone no. is the 918 845 1253 and I often (not always ) have it turned on and listening. Anxious to hear from you. You must be living somewhere near the fire department up there. I have done some bicycling that way a few years ago.

Thanks to all
At 89 years old I can still put up the gourds in the spring and take them down in the fall but nest checks are impossible, etc. I shall only donate the equipment to someone who I have reason to believe is ready to do the work for the enjoyment. The natural gourds take a little care in the off season...

Free Pole and gourds
Old age is creeping up on me and I hope that 2015 will be my last year. I'd like to find some one in the Tulsa area who would be interested in taking over my MPP with lots of natural gourds for 2016. Has 6 vertical arms and 6 horizontal, rope and pulley.

Escape
Thanks for the help. I can see I did a bad overkill and will probably return to the solution you both suggested. Still waiting to see if the flap I built will be adequate. The odd thing is that the PMCA is selling a device that is not really finished. I have very few HOSP now but still put the trap ...

more on RBT
Ed, I understand your black plastic above the elevator but not the clear plastic at the entrance to the holding area. Did you have a one-way door in the plate or did the plate act as a one-way passage itself. I spent a lot of time building a plate with a one-way window and I that was probably a case...

RBT again
The RBT is a very good product but requires a flapper door to prevent the birds from going from the "living room" back to the elevator shaft. Any birds going to underneath the elevator (and they all will) inhibit operation of the elevator. I believe that the only "recall" necessa...

Escape !!
Recently purchased a new RBT Repeating Bait Trap. Very good device - but this morning I watched an escape of one of three captives. There is room for a clever lady EHS to escape through the upper corner by the "elevator". I fixed it (I hope) with a piece of wire hurriedly rigged to keep th...

After I posted the question I realized that I should have asked directly for your opinion, Emil. You certainly are an expert and that is about the answer as I remembered it. These gourds are growing on some hauled-in soil at the retirement home where I live now and I never expected them to do so wel...

Gourd harvest
Been a few years since I raised any gourds and now I have about 10 beauties on the vine, but I have forgotten the best time for harvesting. Seems they have to be brown and moldy first. Help me remember ! Mine are still too green.
