How will Katrina affect the scheduled arrival of our PM's in the next 5 or 6 weeks ??

Will they be on schedule ?

Will they be able to locate last year's housing when about half the local trees and vegitation is gone ?

If they do find this location, I'm sure more than 2/3rds of the housing they used last year is gone.

We will be ready. My SK house was lowered to the four foot level and passed thru the eye of the storm undamaged; better than my people home.....[/list]

Martin Colony History: First started in Gretna, La in 1969 with a small homemade house, have had martins ever since at 2 different homes in Texas

The schedule probably will not be affected. They will find your house, as they do not use the trees for their directional system, but don't ask me how they do it!

If the housing is gone in some places, they will look for new housing, but they will keep checking the old location looking for their house until nesting time. As nesting time comes, they will then stay at the new location. Your house may be overloaded with martins that are looking for a new home, there probably will be a lot of fighting. If you plan to ever increase the size of your colony, this would be a good year to put up additional housing for the displaced martins.

Happy martineering, I bet you will have a great season!
