These are pictures of the Lake Murray(Bomb Island,) SC roost. My martin buddy and roost guide, Bubba Johnson, let me join his boating entourage 7-24, 7-30 and yesterday. The pictures are from 7-24. We realize our shortcomings in estimating the numbers, but going along with the consensus of others there were probably 600,000 to 700,000 there 7-24 and 7-30. Many had migrated by yesterday--probably 200,000 there.
Every martin enthusiast should see the Lake Murray Roost at least once. Awesome!

Was this your first time going (or boating) to a roost? I cannot even imagine the emotions one must feel seeing that many martins at once.....amazing!!!

Not my first Bomb Is. roost trip. I've been 4 or 5 times over the years. Still get awestruck each time. And Bubba and I located and posted the Georgetown, SC roost on the Roostwatch last year. Fun trips!
