I'm contemplating installing a windmill to power aerator for 1 1/4 acre farm pond. Mounted on a 25 ft pole, like a light pole. I'd like to hang Martin gourds on the pole at 12 - 15 foot level. Plenty of room below the fan which will be always active. Doe anybody have experience with such? Or advice? Would the windmill spook the birds? Plenty of room and open space to put up a separate Martin house, but this sounds like a cool concept if it would work. Thanks. David

David,

They certainly won't bother the martins- on the contrary they seem to enjoy them.
Bob Buskas in Alberta posted some great pictures a while back:

The question was asked previously here:

Good luck

Thanks, Stan. Great pictures. I'm really intrigued now. Will have to research how to mount the gourds. This site is about 1/2 mi from the house where we have 5 active houses with about 25 nesting pair, so hope to get it up in time for this year's fledgelings to check it out b4 they depart -- ready for next year.

David ,

I would recommend that you send a pm to Bob. He certainly lives in an area where windmills are common. He might have done it or come across someone that has.
