I'm getting a popup box to connect to msnusers.com when I view some of the posts. Does anyone know why these popups are now occuring? I've never been bothered by them before, but now they are a pain. It first occured when I clicked on the post about Raccon cubs, then again on the current post about Owl guards. It may be happening on most posts, but I got tired of the popup so I didn't read any others.

Thanks,

Brad

Brad, I've been getting popups too, only not on every thread. Kind of makes you not want to read anything anymore, huh?

which browser are you two using?
Firefox does a good job of stopping pop-ups. There is also another piece of software I use called proxomitron to block them.

I also use Firefox, and I don't have any problem. Brad, you may try turning off your computer, and restarting it, sometimes that helps my problems. Do you have your computer set to allow popups? I think mine asked me and I said no..

I cleared my cache and looked at my logs from proxomitron. Looks like Patriot/J.S.Dillon/(whatever it is this month) is doing the popups. I doubt that he is being malicious and this is probably something that msn is doing. He can reference larger/better quality pictures from his site and does not have to be bound by the picture uploading limits that PMCA has.

Here is a cut-n-paste from my log:

I would also recommend SpyBot Search & destroy to take care of all that spyware getting installed on your PC from surfing the web and slowing the PC down.

I have a popup blocker, and never, ever, get popups, except for tonight when I clicked on those posts. I also use Spybot, and Adaware SE. I run them both very often to keep the spyware hopefully under control. I'm not very computer literate, but looks like if the msn popups are bypassing my blocker, then it could be possible they are also passing on spyware, and who knows what else.

Alton & Emil, Like Brad, I have a popup blocker and I have never gotten popups before I started getting them on here. They're annoying. I think Alton found out the reason why, and it's only in those certain threads that popups occur. I like my Internet Explorer just fine and am not changing browsers because of the trouble I'm having on one website. I'd rather just not read the threads at all.

Brad & Cathy,
Check your settings on your browser to see what level it is at.

This was from Frequently asked questions about the Internet Explorer Pop-up Blocker:
I don't want to see pop-ups, even if they are launched when I click a link or button on a Web site. Can I set Internet Explorer to block those also?

Yes. Follow the steps below:

Open Internet Explorer.
On the Tools menu, point to Pop-up Blocker, and then click Pop-up Blocker Settings.
Select the High setting in the box near the bottom of the dialog box.
If you want to see pop-ups that are blocked when you have this setting turned on, hold down the CTRL key while the window opens.

FYI:
Doing this "might" block some other sites that you do want to see. Kind of a double edged sword.

Alton, I appreciate your trying to help me, but that doesn't make a difference. Those annoying msn popups still come up. I can't believe no forum people besides Brad and me are getting these. I also don't think that we're the only two people who don't have Firefox as their browser. I guess other people just haven't clicked on those threads to see if they pop up for them too...or else it doesn't annoy them like it does me.

Maybe there shouldn't be any links to MSN on this forum. Maybe somebody's trying to push there agenda!!!

Out of curiosity I clicked on the links that Brad mentioned. I also never got any popups but, like Emil and apundt I am running firefox browser. I can understand your feelings on this for I too can't stand popups.

I am not getting any pop-ups either. AOL has its own blocking system and nearly always works. On rare occasions a block up will get through when I am on the Internet. When the AOL system blocks a pop-up, it lets me know with a "beep" and tells me how many have been blocked.

rickluc,
I doubt anyone is pushing an agenda here. Unless it is Purple Martins of course.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This is by no means a replacement for The Purple Martin Forum. It is just an online group I started on MSN since MSN doesn't currently have a Purple Martin group. If you have a Smart Phone 600 or Smart Phone 650, you can access MSN group pages because they are viewable on Palm OS browser software. I tried this once before hoping there were enough Purple Martin enthusiast with PDA's who would want to join, but I could never generate any interest.

This is only one message from this thread. Thanks
I don't like popups either.

Ricluc,
You're right about one thing. There is always a price to pay(that ?agenda? you mentioned). Getting an ?Easy Solution" to hosting large files and/or images is not a cheap endeavor. Someone has to pay for it. If we aren't then the "advertisers" are. I was wondering how long it would be before these complaints started to show up. I know that popups get my blood boiling faster than almost anything else. In case anyone cares, the Web media and marketing lobby is fighting hard for 'their right' to send popup type messages to our cell phones also.

The web is analogous to the Radio media format. It doesn?t cost anything to listen to the local AM sports station on the way home from work. The ?cost? is that you also hear commercials every 8 minutes and the Traffic Reports are sponsored by advertisers like Joe?s Crab Shack(a personal favorite). You can get commercial free experience by paying for satellite radio or listening to the local public radio where they have random fund raiser sessions, etc.

This one is great because they maintain a fairly tight lid on spam messages, etc. Even with a limited image storage capacity; the PMCA Forum at least provides the peace of mind that there isn?t a Sales dept selling Ad space(popups) on the forum yet. I say ?yet? because I am certain it has come up in a meeting as a question or proposal of some kind.

Thanks for all your information everyone. I appreciate all the input. I am definitely not trying to send anyone any popups. I have not been able to receive the popups, but I do agree that if you receive popups, they can be annoying.

I will think twice before I "Img" tag an image from the MSN community now that I am aware of this.

I want each and every person's experience here at the PMCA forum to be a pleasurable one. I apologize for any inconvenience.

Sam,
It's not you at all !!!!! It's the way microsoft want to control thing !!!!

MSN is made from microsoft so the problem comes from there not you Sam !!

Take a tour on any MSN group forum or any MSN messenger and you will see how fast you will receive some pop up after that !!!!!!

So please don't apologize......

Have a nice day.......
