I will be removing some overhead lines that they are using to perch on right now. I have added a TV antenna between their houses (No more than 15-20 feet away from their houses and 6-7 feet above them. I was going to add some additional perches on the tower but don't know what they would prefer. I will also add a tower for some Barn Swallows out at the barn. Thanks, Greg

Greg,

I use the green garden stakes that you can find at most garden centers.
They come in lengths from 2' to 6' with diameters of 3/8" to 1/2".
They are light and work great for perches. They can be wired on with out much work.

Good Luck,

Greg,

In the article at www.purplemartin.org/LOY/LOY1995.html there is mention that martins preferred 5/8" diameter perches over ones of smaller diameters. However, it doesn't say that larger diameters were tried. Anyway, I'm using 4-foot long 5/8" diameter wooden dowels for perches. I treated them with some wood preservative I had on hand, but I don't claim that this is needed or does any good.

Thanks, I wasn't thinking of something that big. I figured 3/8" at the most. From what you guys are saying that would be the smallest. Thanks again.
