This year, for the first time in 19 years of being a landlord, I have Martins coming to drink at our birdbath. The first time was on April 28th when a ASY male came to our birdbath several times during the day. This was on day 3 of cloudy, cool weather. The colony was hunkered down in survival mode. The closest body of water is about 1 mile away and I figured the Martin was thristy and needed to conserve energy so came to the birdbath, which is only 75 feet away. Yesterday, which was clear and warm, I observed a ASY female drinking from the birdbath. Since Martins are 'suppose' to drink on-the-fly I find this behavior very interesting. Has anyone else had Martins drink from the birdbath? In nature expect the unexpected. :)
