My first purple martin, a female, showed up April 12, 4 days earlier than last year. My Troyer vertical gourds were not up yet, but it flew low right by the location of where the house would be. I got the house up that same night. The next day it was checking out the gourds. I now have 2 adult males and 3 females. We had 3 cold days in a row last weekend with temperatures down to 28 degrees F and a dusting of snow. They seem to have come through it ok and temps are back up in the 70's now. Will see how many show up in the coming weeks. I had all 8 gourds occupied last year which was only my second year hosting purple martins.
