Repeating bait trap
Hi all. I have a repeating bait trap that I bought from PMCA and it has caught many sparrows. I want to buy another one so that I can have 2 active traps going at the same time. I saw other places selling them at lower prices (Wildlife Control Supplies one example). Anyone bought a different one than the one that PMCA sells and are you happy with it? Should I stick with PMCA? Suggestions ASAP because the sparrow population is out of control!!!!

Brent,
Go with tried and true. Iv the PMCA trap too, its very good. Iv a blains right next to it, and both catch the same. I made them both a bit larger as I like to keep them alive a long time, but that was just personal preference.
Tom
In thinking about it, its very nice to have something else, PMCA sells the wire trap, (used to be called the ST1)...anyway 3 doors on top, middle one is the catch area. This is an outstanding trap, can use nest material as bait, actual bait seeds as bait and easy to move around. With a bait bird in the middle, its deadly. Simple, deadly and versatile.

Brent, its a fantastic trap. Rip a sparrow nest out, place some of it in the trap and put it under where they nested. Done.
The trip lever to drop the door, looks like a loop. Put a bit of black foam cut to fit in it and put white millet seeds on it. Done.
Decorate the trap with what they like to use as nesting material, cellophane from a cigarette box, white feathers, string, plastic bag bits. Iv learned to stick the white feathers into a bit of foam, quill first because they just blow out.
Best trapper I know is Louise, hers looks like a sparrow buffet! She is deadly with that trap.
One or two in the center Brent, soon your worries will be over.

I can’t wait. I ordered the very day and now awaiting its arrival. Ok you say to rip the nest out and place some of it in the trap? Place the trap under where the nest was? I don’t have the trap yet but I will follow your advice. My fear is if I remove the nest they just started they will leave. I have martin houses full of martins and Bluebirds nest building and don’t want to cause the sparrows to disturb them. I want to trap them so very bad. They avoid the repeating bait trap. They take all the bread around it but don’t go in to get the bread inside of the trap. I hope this new trap will get them. I need to control them now!!!! Thanks again. I’ll keep everyone posted. I ordered the ST2. Can’t wait.

Yes you can rip that nest right out, usual cautions right??? If the sparrows have have eggs present, the male will go nuts Brent and could do some damage. Anyway they will see their nesting material and go get it, try not to stuff too much in there, traps gotta function. A few wisps, shoved right down to the bottom.brent wrote: ↑Sun Mar 08, 2026 7:28 pmI can’t wait. I ordered the very day and now awaiting its arrival. Could:
Place this new trap where they are picking up the food, right next to the repeating trap. Trust me. Then when you bag one, either get it into the center and reset or place that sparrow in the repeating trap.
When trapping, dissappear Brent. Fade away, dont look at the sparrow, dont look for it, just set the trap and dissappear.
Man Brent nail these heathens!!!!!!!
One PS: Brent, sounds like they are eating around the trap...no need to go in when its easy pickings...start to down size the amount of food around the trap. Let them eat it all up. Eventually the only available food should be on the bait trey in both traps.

Will do Tom. I don’t think there are eggs yet because I saw them still brining in nest material. I’ll take a little of the nest, don’t want to destroy it, and put it in the trap. I’ll stop putting food outside of the trap as you suggested. Thanks so much. The new trap hasn’t come in yet. Will keep you posted.
