Wow- it's been a couple months since I've logged on- so happy to read all the scout reports from the southern states! Can't wait to see 'ours' return too!
In preparation for martin arrival around mid-March, we're doing some upgrades to our housing. Along with a T-14 and two barns, we have eight Bo 9 gourds, which we retrofitted with spinning black vents on top of the gourds. They did great for a couple years but started to leak at the end of the 2025 season. I need to repair them and from reading here have learned that many of you have success with elbow vents.
As far as placement goes, have any of you used elbow vents on the top of a gourd? I'm thinking that since heat rises, it makes the most sense to install them on top rather than on the side of the gourd. That would also allow us to utilize/cover the same hole where we'll remove the spinny vents. We're fortunate to have a son obsessed with a 3D printer, so I suspect he can make anything we need.
Thoughts? Appreciate any insight or advice.
Laura
