Martin Colony History: 2010-2014 located in Slidell LA. Gourd rack with 16 gourds. Max of 2 pairs during this short period in Slidell. Plenty of fledglings.

2014-present.. moved to Broussard LA. Same Gourd Rack but added a 6 room house (modified from a 12 room)

2020: after a long drought of nothing, 4 pairs and 4 nests, 23 eggs total.
6 fledges.

2021: 9 pair, 47 eggs
36 hatchlings
30 fledged

2022: about 12 pairs.. many eggs, all fledged.. only had one hatchling die.. probably because of our schnauzer. :(

2023: 16 pairs. So far about 60 chicks with about a dozen eggs to go.

2024: 13 pair. About 60 eggs
2025: 14 pairs .. 69 eggs.

I think the last of my visitors stopped showing up a couple days ago. I always have plenty of morning visitors for a couple weeks after the last of the fledglings depart. By mid July it all ends. Gonna call the season officially over at my place. July 18th.

‘Til next year friends!

David, here in SE Missouri I have 35 birds left to fledge. Approximately 65 birds have already fledged. My season here usually ends mid to late August. Always kind of sad when they leave.

Hi David. Almost the end here in Mathews (Raceland). Monday the late nest chicks will be 26 days old. I see them looking out. I checked on them a couple of days ago and no mites. They looked age appropriate. Mom has been feeding. Dad is around but he stands guard more than feeds. In fact he squawked at me when I went to the garden just a few moments ago. So, after next week it will all be over. It’s good to hear that you had a good season.

Well I posted too soon. At 8:30 this morning I had a large gathering of visitors! So the lovely sounds are still here. Maybe a few more days of this. Probably a dozen or so. A few obvious young recent fledlings too… peeking inside the gourds.. scoping things out for next year maybe?

:)
