I have a couple of Troyer gourd poles with the rope and pulley system for raising and lowering. I was wondering if anyone has an idea of how long the rope can be counted on lasting. It looks like it would be quite a job to replace it. Certainly would have to remove the poles from the ground stake or somehow get up the pole. Another compication is an owl guard fence I have placed around the top of the one pole.

The original rpoe has been on the poles app. 7 or 8 years. Any ideas. Thanks; Hanover Biil.

well really you only need to get to the top, preferably while on the ground, lol. what you could do is get the replacement rope (does it come with eye bolt...IDK) secure the new rope to the replacement bolt and all you would have to do (if you can't get it down) is go up there, unscrew the old eye bolt, insert the new one? doesn't sound like getting it down is an option. would need a tall ladder and a buddy to hold it steady Im thinking.
hope this helps,
Tom

Hello Hanover Bill. I had to replace my rope on a Troyer pole. You should be able to lift the pole off the ground stake and set the end on a 5 gallon bucket to replace the rope. Troyers sells the rope by itself or you can but the entire assembly with pulley and eye bolts. You can find them in the Troyer catalog page 60. The length of the pole will determine the length of the rope you need. Hope all works out okay.

I would have to check my records but I have a AAA 16 gourd rack that is at least 15 years old, maybe older and still on the original rope. I inspect it each year and see no signs of it needing replaced. I am pretty sure Andy Troyer bought the business from Dianne (original maker of the AAA and Gemini racks). I also think he started off as a rope business so I bet the ropes are made to last.

Do the ropes need to sprayed with anything? Would it prolong the life of it?
