Bluebird Issues

The bluebirds are starting to build in the PM house. Should we prevent that? Has any one out there experienced this situation?

I haven't had bluebirds try to nest in my martin housing, but yes- you should try to prevent it. Do you have other nest boxes up near the housing for other species (tree swallows, bluebirds) to use?

We do have a bluebird house near by but sparrows are winning that battle.

Suggest you buy a van ert trap for the sparrows in the blue bird house and trap them. The blue birds were pushed to the martin housing, draw them back by ridding the area of those sparrows. Or just shoot em.

i’m going to get the trap. Tree huggers around here will pass out when I start shooting. Some Sparrows are about to drown.

Its a great trap, shouldn't take long. Here's a suggestion...get rid of the big orange dot, just color it in with a marker. As much as I love seeing the dot, found my catches increase without it...and if you feel crazy put white streaks of paint on the shutter door, just a bit. They think its poop. Understand about the shooting!

So I got the trap and saw my enemy standing on the house. Set the trap and sure enough looked out an hour later and saw it was tripped. Excitement didn’t last long as I succeeded in trapping the bluebird!

So waited a day saw the sparrow again and again set the trap only to trap the bluebird again!!

The good news is the bluebirds have won the battle so far. Haven’t seen a sparrow in a few days and the bluebirds are busy building.

Appreciate all the help i get on this site.
