Tree Swallow pair still here and sitting on top of my pole. I removed my 4 gourds 2 weeks ago. I got a shepherd hook with a gourd 35’ away. They completely ignored it.
I have no idea on what to do next. This is year 4 for me and year one was good. Is there a market to sell my pole & gourds?

Is your housing open or closed, and also is it raised or not. It is late enough in the season that if those TS don't already have a nest somewhere I would think they would be in a hurry to start. I would lower the housing and close the cavities off unless you actually see martins in your yard. If they are nesting somewhere else and just using your martin housing to perch on that is not a huge deal. If they are trying to build nests in your martin housing they will continue to do so if it is not closed off.

.. I’m with flyin-lowe,, If you don’t have Martins in your houses, then close them off.. Don’t let the Tree Swallows think the house are for Tree Swallows.. Once they start using your Martin house, they won’t let go easy.. good Luck,,

2020 - Pair investigating
2021 - Got 2 eggs. HOSPs poked holes in them. Commence HOSP reduction
2022 - Off to a good start, tree swallows took over and Martins left
2023 - Off to a good start, Martin population dwindled and they eventually left
2024 - New standalone pole and gourd rack. 1 nest, 4 eggs, none hatched
2025 - 9 nests, 37 eggs, 23 hatched, 19 fledged!
Last year when we had some TS show up, we closed off the gourds and slowly lowered the housing. Then took a shephards hook and slowly moved it away from the pole until it was about 65' from the Martin gourds. The TS took to it and stayed over there.
I'm sure it screwed up my Martin year as I ended up without any sticking around, but at least the TS werent imprinted with my site, We havent had any TS return this year.
