Late yesterday evening I saw the first Martin of the year. It was an adult male not sure if it’s mine or a passerby. But it was nice to see. Hopefully it was mine and maybe it will be on the rack when I get home from the firehall in the morning.

That’s the funny part he never made a peep jus flew in low over head and around the gourd racks then back up to the power lines that cross the property. I sure hope he’s there when I get home tomorrow.

Could it be a female?
I've had a few female first arrivals including this year. I've noted in the past they are not very vocal at all and you really need to be in the right place at the right time to notice them.

No John it was a fully purple adult male. He flew only 15 feet or so over head. Does seem funny that he wasn’t singing at all. Hopefully this is my founding adult.

Hope he is yours, odds are he is and id wager that they liked sitting on those power lines during your season. Probably just checking to see if all was how he left it, and that you left those power lines in place.

I sure hope it’s mine they enjoyed those powerlines last year once the young ones fledged they were hundreds of martins on those powerlines. I think I had around 45 pairs last year I have 66 cavities I hope they feel them up. I have one more gourd rack and about 12 or 16 more horizontal troyer gourds to put on it. Time will tell. I hope everyone has a good season
