I have a single T-14. I've been a landlord for a few years now. Generally, in the spring we get off to a rough start because there's always some obnoxious HOSP that wants a cavity. I'm not a good enough shot, unfortunately. And they are clever birds. They can always see me coming.
Usually it means taking the house down for as long as a week until the HOSP gives up. Last year I had some measure of success by clearing out his nest (which I know is a bad idea, and not recommended, but it worked and we had 10 breeding pairs of PMs).
So, this year I made up my mind. I was going to wait to put the house up until enough PMs were in the area to ensure they hopefully overwhelmed any pests. Brave words. So, of course, the PMs arrive early this year, and before I know it there are a half dozen ASYs investigating the house (which is 3 feet off the ground). So I gave in, raised the house, and the weather got cold and the birds disappeared. For a week. Then we had a warm day, and had 6 PMs immediately, and are now back up to around a dozen. We briefly had a HOSP, but there were just too many PMs for him to stay around.
So... so far, so good. I was out about the house today, and everyone seems happy and chatty.
So, what do I know, anyway???
I probably could. But I live at the beach. That means anything that can rust, rusts. So my winch is incredibly rusted. It goes up fine. But going down means spending 20 minutes and jiggering around with a monkey wrench. And, well, the HOSP is gone. For now...
