I have placed wind chimes in my yard for the first time. I have seen my first scout but he has not returned for the past to days. Will the wind chimes keep the birds from returning to my colony?

No. But they may annoy your neighbors. I used to have neighbors with wind chimes. After a while, they're no different than a jackhammer or loud music, constantly dinging. I'm not a fan. I guess they're fine if your neighbors are too far away to disturb.

Yea, I agree. Kinda like a barking dog. For some reason the owner doesn't hear it, but the neighbors have to put up with it.

I just wanted to know if anyone has ever known chimes to bother a Martin colony. We live on a large farm; therefore, I have no close neighbors. The beautiful chimes were given to me as memorial to my Mom who passed away this past December due to Covid. She was 99 years old. So when I hear them, I don't equate them to a barking dog; I connect them to the presence of my loving Mom.

My reply about the barking dogs was certainly not directed at you, sorry if you took it that way. Condolences on your Mother passing away-Sorry to hear that. I do not think wind chimes would cause any worry for the Martins. Did you have the frozen weather that most of us did? That might very well be why you haven't seen your bird return.

I wish my neighbors would read this Forum, they might learn something about barking dogs and neighbors.

No, wind chimes will not deter the martins. I have pole guards that when it's windy make a lot of clanging sounds. Doesn't bother them at all. Enjoy the chimes. And your martins.

Thanks for the replies. We a couple of nights in the low 20s but no frozen precip, thank goodness. Today is beautiful and I just saw my little guy at my gourds! So... maybe he is back to stay!!
