This pic is old and was taken before I hung them. I drill two holes just large enough to accept the 14 gage insulated electrical wire that most everybody uses with gourd racks, one near the rear and one near the front by the entrance. I wad up one end of each piece of cable so it won't pull through the hole and dangle them from those two holes, like one would do with Troyer horizontal gourds.
It has been a few years ago, and I don't know what pvc pipe costs these days, but the thin-walled stuff is probably still pretty cheap. I would guess material cost would be no more than 6 or 7 dollars, certainly single digit cost. I can't count my labor because old retired guys work for free...
I used PVC cement and Alex plus paintable silicone caulk, but they don't need paint. I never use 100% silicone if there is any possibility of needing paint at some later date; 100% silicone won't take paint. Did some checking and found the 8" thin wall no longer comes in white so the 8" dia piece would need white paint (that will stick to plastic, water-base won't, at least not very well).
