Any info. on this? Where is it located this year?

The martins are roosting at the airport again this year, but are mostly using trees more to the south of the terminal along the entrance road to the terminal close to the two hotels on either side of the road. I have been out of town and need to check the roost again to see how many birds are there. Two weeks ago there were thousands of martins! Will provide more information this week.

On Monday evening, there were probably between 100,000 and 200,000 martins using this roost. They were in trees just east of the two hotels along the entrance road to the terminal and most seemed to come into the trees between 8:30 and 9 PM. The Tulsa Audubon Society is sponsoring a Roost Watch event again this year, and it will probably be Saturday evening, August 17th. There are a few more details to be worked out. I will post information once everything is set.
Prior to going to the airport, I went by the city's water treatment plant at Lake Yahola, which is about 2 miles northwest of the airport. At about 8 PM there were thousands of martins out over the lake and many on wires closer to the buildings at the treatment plant. They use the lake and treatment plant as a staging area before they move over to the airport closer to dark. It is quite a sight to see them!
