Fulton Winch

Several years ago people were talking about the Fulton K650 0101 brake winch and how smooth they ran systems upand down poles compared to the standard D-L brake winch. I can't find that winch anywhere. Has Fulton gone out of business? Is there a replacement winch that works as well? You people still like your Fulton winch? How much were they? Thanks

I just googled it and found it on my 1st search. Just Google Fulton K650 0101 and you should find it.

Dale, that is true but nobody carries it anymore. They say it's not in stock.

A lot of people run the worm gear hex drive winches. A cordless drill raises and lowers you house/gourd rack, no cranking on your part and theirs no brake to wear out.

Cable capacities: 7/32 in (up to 82 ft)... 1/4 in (up to 59 ft)... 9/32 in (up to 49 ft). Special reel required for 9/32 cable, call factory. Smaller or larger cable diameters are not recommended.

With this winch I use my Milwaukee 2606-20 M18 1/2" Drill battery drill. Lots of power, Works sweet!!!!

I was wondering about this myself as we'd like to replace our ropes off-season. That particular winch is listed as discontinued on the manufacturers website.

You would think the manufacturers would have come out with a replacement winch to replace the K650 0101 but I have not seen it. I know the people that bought them really liked them. They said they were very smooth operating and didn't bounce houses or gourds when lowering.

There has too be other brands out there. Sure makes it easier on my heavy T14. I ran a steel plate along the bottom, to spread the weight of the round washers the cable is on.

We wouldn't remember to charge our drill and are sure to forget it when we head out to my FILs. Our setups are pretty lightweight so we need a smooth operating self-activating automatic brake winch with no minimum weight requirement. I've sent a message to Fulton to see if they have anything else suitable. I've also sent a msg to Steve Kroenke via Facebook to see if he has a recommendation but haven't heard back yet. If we can't find an appropriate brake winch we'll just have to use the non-break model and hope we don't accidentally let go of the handle. I'm a bit danger-prone and I've already had a rope slip from my hand. Thankfully, no birds were in the housing yet.

I'll see if there are any suggestions on the Facebook group.

Fulton said 143001 would be the replacement for the K650s. It is rated for 1,000 lbs. They discontinued all brake winches rated for 600 lbs. I mentioned the Fulton K650 to a martin keeper and she said she had a K650 and it was a nice winch but it rusted after a few years.

Ours rusted also, that’s why we changed type. The worm gear hex drive comes with a handle for use by hand as well, no drill needed if you don’t want to use one. Hex drive winches don’t need a brake on them, the worm gear keeps it from moving, no matter what position you stop it at.

TheSmiths, thanks for the info. I'm like you, I would either forget the drill or the battery would run out during checks. I have 6 poles with houses and gourds I manage. Yes, I could put the handle back on but it would be terribly slow and not fun. I've got enough stuff I haul out to the colony already when nest checking and don't want to add more stuff. I'll just stick with the DL 350. They bounce my houses and gourds quite a bit but the babies seem to get use to it, especially when we drop the systems every 5 days to the very last fledge.

You should invest in the Milwaukee 2606-20 M18 1/2" Drill battery drill with an 4 AH battery. It will meet all your needs.
