We have many martins feeding their babies. About an hour ago, we got 3/8in of rain, and now its cloudy and cool, about 6 PM, and it is so much fun to sit and watch all the feeding. The babies are chirping, lined up to 3 deep at the entrances, so I decided to try to count. I got my stop watch, I think I counted 67 birds that came in to feed their babies in one minute. That is really a sight to behold. Normally, there is not that much activity, but this is phenomenal. I could easily be off by 5 to 10, I tried to be conservative, so it could easily be 70 to 75. Even with large colonies, it is fun to sit, watch, count, and enjoy the activity. because of things like this I like to raise martins!

Yes, Dick, its like a busy airport, in fact, I wondered how they keep from flying into each other.

Stan, I bet you will enjoy that at your place. come July, mine will be at the Houston roost near the SW freeway and Bellaire Blvd. I know that so many people are having rain problems and I honestly do hate to see the stressed martins, I only wish that we would get some more rain, we need at least 4 to 6 inches for our trees. The cracks in the ground are 1/2 to 3/4in wide.
