My question is relating only to the houses, not gourds... I have only looked at the plastic housing at my local discount store (no plug here either). I was wondering how do they hold up against a .177 pellet with a muzzle velocity of 1000 fps? It seems to me that the plastic would crack, after being hit, and slowly but surely break apart. Any experienced folks with these type of houses that shoot sparrows?
Dave, any comments?
Thanks

Your .177 pellet will go right in and out the other end of my houses. Sorry! The house will only have a hole and will not fall apart.
Solution.... Be a darn good shot. Smile

Thanks, Dave. I agree with your solution
I am starting to plan for next year and am investigating the housing that will replace my current, inferior house. This is my first year and I have 5 nests in my 8 compartment house. Still battling sparrows, though. I may put up a replacement and add another next year (depending on the resistance from my wife). These martins are kinda captivating.

Glad to see other new comers feal the same as I do. I have gone Purple Martin nuts. Probably out 700 - 800 dollars this year already. Told my wife I could be doing worse.

For folks like me, a poor shot at longer ranges, it's good that replacement doors are readily available. I've unintentionally added enough ventilation to a few doors to compartments where a male House Sparrow was chirping that I needed a new door. I still have a few new ones in reserve.
