Hello,
Any suggestions where to put song bird magnet to attract Purple martins?
Does it have to be on pole???? Last year I just had it sitting on near by porch about 60/70 feet from pole.
Do you suggest I rig something to attach to Matin Pole??
Thanks
John

Had some visits (two sittings) last year. A visit this year 2017.
A FEW YEAR'S BACK WHEN I GOT MY FIRST PAIR I HAD THE SONG BIRD MAGNET MOUNTED ON TOP OF MY S&K TRI-POLE RIGHT WITH THE GOURDS.SINCE THEN I HAVE RE-MOUNTED IT UNDER THE EAVE OF MY BARN,I ALSO INSTALLED A SPEAKER DIRECTING THE SOUND UP INTO THE WILD BLUE YONDER.WHEN RAIN IS PREDICTED I'LL GET THE LADDER OUT AND POINT THE SPEAKER DOWN TO PREVENT HOLDING THE RAIN WATER,WHEN THE WEATHER PASSES I'LL POINT IT UP AGAIN.I HAVE A SMALL COLONY AS OF LAST YEAR,MY BIRDS HAVE YET TO ARRIVE....I REALLY DON'T NEED TO PLAY IT ANYMORE BUT I ALWAYS DO....ONCE THEY ARRIVE I WON'T PLAY IT ANY LONGER,IT'S JUST MY ROUTINE IN THE SPRING.......BERNDOG

Mine is on top of my chimney, bungee corded to the chimney cap. It's my highest point on property. It's facing straight up.

Since it points straight up, it will need a couple days to dry out- after a rain. But after a couple dry days, it starts working fine again. The light sensor stopped working so I have to manually turn it on and off. My chimney is only about 30 feet from the Martin pole. Good luck

Thanks Bird Brain. I posted the following a bit later today. The SongBird sounds do work I guess.
I'll be damed!! I was out in the yard checking my Troyer Gourds trying to figure where I was going to put the Songbird Magnet..
I had turned on the songbird to make sure it was working and went back in the house for something and I look out and here is one very Large Sharp Shinned Hawk sitting on top op the Pole. I hadn't had the morning song on for a total of maybe 4 minutes.
Not a good sign.

yes the Songbird Magnet can also be an accipitor hawk magnet! Had a coopers hawk do the same time a couple years ago. I prefer the dawn song and daytime chatter cds but those too can attract hawks; however, the songbird magnet recording is overall pretty raucous and seems to attract hawks moreso than dawnsong or daytime chatter. I'm hoping to not have to play any of them after this season; but being as I only had one pair of martins for the first time at my home last season (with LOTS of visitors as well) I may play dawn song if my pair doesn't return for some reason this spring and if I'm not seeing any martins. I will do my best not to play daytime chatter as believe it attracts hawks almost as much as Songbird Magnet. I also do not play any recordings when I'm not around so that I can be around if a hawk shows up and also because I like to turn recordings off whenever martins show up while the recording is playing. Just my .02 worth.
