When the female is setting/incubating a clutch, just what is the normal procedure as far as she goes and her time on the eggs, how often does she leave them unattened and for how long. I of course cannot watch them all day but I often see the male in that compartment but he always has his head out of the hole and he could not be on the eggs himself. Its as if he is just on guard duty til she returns but it sometimes seems to be over an hour.

Dick,
Maybe you should get a nestcam to watch the female sitting on the eggs and the feeding activity that you asked about in another topic. Some folks turn their nestcams into webcams, as you will find in a earlier topic.
The female incubates the eggs with her brood patch, whereas the male can just help keep them warm.
You could also go to the PMCA home page and search on incubation. There are several related topics given.
