Louisiana Roost

Looking to visit a roost in Louisiana...anyone recommend a location? Thinking about traveling to Shreveport as one has been reported there. Thanks, Krista

There's a large one at Lake Pontchartrain. I don't know when it starts and I've never been but may try to go this year.

I actually was in New Orleans two weeks ago and stopped by the Causeway around 7:00 p.m. before heading home. Didn't see a purple martin in site at the south end of the bridge. There were several by the point on the Orleans side, but not enough to say it was a roost.

Was some time ago but on the South end there were hundreds of birds roosting under the bridge. Don't remember
the date or time but my group of birds were always out of here by mid July. My two houses are closed up but still getting regular visits morning and noon from my group. So I guess they haven't made it to the Causeway roost yet. We are located in Covington.

The morning radar donut pattern appears much more impressive on the north end of the Causeway than on the south end. Orleans Audubon says the north roost however is a mile from shore. It might be worthwhile making some local inquiries as to whether anything is visible from the north shore. Just a thought... dt

Thanks all...my uncle did not see any martins roosting at the south end of the bridge in Metairie. He went last night as he doesn't live far from there. Looking forward to seeing a roost...may have to go to Houston like I did last year! Krista
