Martin Colony History: 2016 Informed landlord now Have 2 pair returning from 2015 That is a miracle. Hoping for a very successful year, sparrow population on decline.
First house was plastic with crescent holes Had martins within a few days. Ignorant landlord gradually lost them
Then got Trio House and still lost most of them. Lots of sparrows

They are BEAUTIFUL Kyler. Congrats

And something about it! I have one compartment with a partial nest being built! I don't know if one pair starting building two nests and then they picked one of them? Or if I have a new pair that showed up in the last couple days! I hope another one came!!!

Best year I have ever had!! So happy!

This is so great! Sounds old lady weirdish but makes me want to drive to Colby, meet you and see your colony. I'll refrain from stalking you and relax with a book instead. :)

Deb,
No your fine!! I have so many people on the highway just looking at my colony! They drive by so slow when they are getting close to my house! Its pretty cool!

You are welcome to come see my colony! I just need to know a little before but anyways
that would be great to meet you too! I really want to meet you and see your colony as well! I have a question how far is Pratt from Colby? Just wondering because I bet your colony is something pretty cool!

I don't know how many friends I have met! Just because of putting up a martin house! I would really like to make more!! I said awhile back that a guy stops by my house every other day just looking! He has had houses up for awhile and can't attract any martins! So he comes by mine just so he can enjoy the sound!!

Another thing? How are your martins doing? And how many pair do you have this year?

Kyler,
Here are some pics from my nest check yesterday. A blurry baby pic. It ought to fledge this weekend.
Image

A well used nest with babies huddled away as I open their compartment in my Trendsetter 12.
Image

I dropped house 1 and was half way done when the parents started landing on the other housing and power lines. Not upset but urging me to hurry it up.
Image

I had been away and hadn't nest checked for 8 days. I was fearing heat losses. I even carried a tub with me to the houses thinking I'd have to remove deceased ones. They looked great! Except for one that had died from unknown cause. It was a relief. Currently I have 29 nesting pair. 92 Young. 16 more eggs in four nests to hatch. Woo hoo.

Deb,
That just makes me want to see your colony even more! I wish one day I have a colony like that! Have you lost some babies over the years from heat? Like I mean the whole brood? Or just a couple babies? And did the parents still come back that next year and nest?

Also is the trendsetter houses! Are the insulated? And do they we great ventilation?

I really like your pictures! I'm down in Dallas Texas visiting my dad! And I will be back on the 2nd of July! And all of the babies should be about 10 to 12 days old! When I get back!
