Although Im not from Wisc. My birds were late this year to West Central Missouri. It was a strange winter/early spring so I think there was some delay. I also think the delayed birds have a better chance since they may not have been exposed to the cold, tough feeding conditions that this year exposed the early ones to. Fingers crossed, they're just being smart.

- Martin Colony History: 24 Super and Excluder Gourds on two gourd racks, all SREH. Full occupancy. My philosophy is to maximize fledge % with existing cavities rather than adding gourds to grow colony, thus providing opportunities for new colony expansion. Fledge over 100 nestlings yearly from 24 gourds. Band nestlings in cooperation with state university. 2019 Adendum: Reduced colony size to 12 gourds to focus on more intensive management regimen.
First ASY male here a bit early this year. Then there was a pause for two weeks as winter returned. As of yesterday, there were 17 martins here with 5 paired up. Last year, there were 19 here as of April 27th. The main increase occured three days later when there were 30 here. All weather dependent.
Patience.
