Slow arrivals
Is it just me, or are the martins a little late this year? Seems like people are reporting their scouts. Mine are a week late now. Lots of nice weather the past three weeks here in central Tx, not sure what's going on, if anything.

Definitely slow! Usually have at least a couple of males by now but I have only seen one female and she showed up two days ago. It should pick up soon.

rrmartins-- Seem slow to me. Last 3 years, I've seen them the 5th, 18th & 11th. Nothing solid so far this year.

- Martin Colony History: I started trying to attract Purple Martins in 2011. I got my first breeding pair in 2013.
2013-1 pair, 2014-4 pair, 2015-8 pair, 2016-12 pair 60 babies :-).
It seems like it depends on where you look. I've seen several reports of martins a week or two earlier than last season too. Either way, I think many will arrive this week with the southerly flow and warmer temps. Here in N. MS, I'm already seeing a bunch of flying insect activity too (flies, bees, crane flies, etc.). There have been some very persistent strong westerlies south of Florida. I wonder if that could be hampering them a bit.

Good thing you don't live up here in Canada, it is a long wait until April fourth for those first few brave souls...and then by mid August they are all gone again. Keep your eyes open, I have 47 days until maybe my first ASY male. Good thing it's 47 days, don't need them to come home to this.

Hey thanks...it is actually a T 18 that got way too big. Made two of these monsters this year to add to my two existing T 10's. Currently working on two giant circular 18-24 room condos too. Was seriously hoping to get to 80 plus rooms and a few gourds but running out of time and motivation. Here is hoping to good year for all of us.
