Martin Colony History: 2017 Had a lot visitors no Matins nesting, hoping 2018 will be different.

2019 had 30 pair

Congrats. I have considered satellite sites but haven't done any yet. I would like to get with the local schools and start up some sites. Maybe soon.

James --- That's great news.... and a satellite site at that..... :wink: I also have a Satellite site at one of our local Golf Courses.. I had Martins there, (last year) and they laid 4 eggs, but none hatch,,,, Maybe this year at the Golf Course, we will have better luck.. My game can sure use it.. :grin:

Hey James,

Thanks for sharing that great news with us! I wish more folks would establish satellite purple martin colonies as these colonies help increase the martin population and may encourage others to become interested in martins. Golf courses make excellent sites for martin colonies.

Bob and I currently have five satellite martin colonies and all raise many babies each year and hopefully inspire other folks to become martin landlords.

Thanks again for sharing your great news with us and thanks for establishing a satellite martin colony!

Steve you are more than Welcome. I am trying to promote it as much as I can. You took the lead year ago and I like others are trying to expand the range here. Carlton has 3 sites he manages and I am looking for another site as we speak. :grin: :grin: :grin: :grin: :grin: :grin: :grin: :grin: :grin:

Good news James from the golf course. If it weren't for my satellite site I would still be martin-less! Got my first two pairs last season. Still trying at home. In many ways I'm happy the satellite got going first. Like Steve mentioned more opportunity for people to enjoy and many folks got to enjoy watching the satellite Martins last season.

Martin Colony History: I moved to South Florida, from Delaware, in August of 2015.

I care for a 6 condo Sunset House as well as two Deluxe Gourd Racks, with 24 Chirpynest/Excluder gourds, along a canal in Pompano Beach, Florida.


At Quiet Waters Park, nearby in Deerfield Beach, I care for a Deluxe Gourd Rack with 12 TVG's. I also care for a Deluxe Gourd rack with 12 Excluder gourds with Modified Excluder entrances. I am substituting 6 Chirpynest boxes for 6 of the Conley II entranced gourds in 2026.

At another local park, Tradewinds Park in Coconut Creek, I care for a Trendsetter 12, 5 gourds rack with 60 Excluder gourds with Modified Excluder Entrances and 1 Deluxe Gourd Rack with 12 Troyer Vertical Gourds with Starling Stoppers over the Conley II's to keep out smaller starlings.

That is wonderful news Jim. Good job!

I was out to my Tradewinds Park satellite site this morning and it has two martins sitting on the Minicastle porch.

I also checked the Quiet Waters Park gourd rack but nothing there yet.

Yes Bill Golf and Martins.

Carl that is good news that a pair has showed up. I think the other site will get martins this year. The weather needs to improve.
