Hello everyone, I bought a brand new TRIO/NATURE HOUSE MARTIN SAFETY SYSTEM 12 (GRANDPA) house at the end of last season. I am down in South Texas so it is getting close to the time to open it up and hope for martins. I just wanted to ask those of you that have experience with this house whether or not the winch was worth the purchase or if you preferred using the rope? Thanks for any advice.

I had one with a rope and it did fine - you don't need a winch for the weight with such a light house. Cables will rust if left outside year round, but should be good for several years.

My second colony is real close to Magnolia. Just down the road on 1488 toward Field's Store Community.
The intersection of Joseph Rd and Kickapoo is exactly where it is at.

@ A.P. - this season is my first attempt in Magnolia. I have a lot of pine trees around me, but there are people not too far from me that get martins so I am optimistic. I am off Nichol Sawmill road not too far from FM1774. I have hosted martins for 4 years at my parents farm near Columbus Texas. I will keep you posted on how Magnolia goes.

The rope will do you just fine. The big issue with the rope will be that safety lock thing if it was a new purchase. I cut them off all my new ones.

we had 16 pairs out there last year.
32 nests available:
two 8 room coates watersedge houses and four plastic gourds on a multi-purpose pole
then a 12 gourd rack with a few natural gourds and the rest plastics.
Most took to the gourds.
Are first arrivals tend to be around march 1st to 15th over there.
