- Martin Colony History: Put up 8 natural gourds in 2015 got a few visits only.
I was wondering when to take down my gourd rack for the season. I want to modify some entrances and replace some for next year. No occupants this year but still have PMs in the area that visit fairly regularly. When would they leave my area here to migrate south? I'm in Southern Maryland. Thanks for any info opinions etc.

You should leave them up through the end of september. The late migrating birds from up north might stop by and check out your colony for next season

I am not sure where the birds came from but this AM I had well over 100 on the power lines and more swarming the rack with the SREH / porch gourds. And there were over a dozen barnies flying around the front/side yard.
I have a hunch they are getting ready to leave for the year and they just wanted to have one more romp around "their" stomping grounds.
There will be birds next year! And I will have the gourds ready for them.
