- Martin Colony History: Started trying to attract purple martins in 2012! It's finally happened in 2017! 5 years!!! ASY male and SY female came May 1st, fledged 5 babies!
William my pair divorced! They were playing house I guess! They were here together for 3 weeks and we had 3-4 days of cool drizzly weather and they stopped showing up. When I got the lawn mower out one day they were here. He stops by and preens on the perch. I believe I have seen a female just make several circles very quiet around the site ,she flutters at the gourds. But that's it. I have read on here several other females had left after making a nest.... I am not sure but my guess is no one takes care of their martins around here. When I drive by the sites I see starlings and sparrows sitting with the martins. So if the martins are not wise enough they don't fledge many young in this area. They probably all have to renest just to get something and I had a young female just not developed. But it's been 2 weeks since that happened and he comes by everyday . They say if I had a good place for them they may return next year! So maybe that's why she never ate any of my eggshells, she didn't have no eggs in her! MY LUCK!!! Oh well just have to wait another year! I will make everything better for them next year. Good luck with your colony!

Sorry to hear that news Sharon. You do have a good attitude and they will come to your site soon. Just keep that good attitude. Once they do settle in, your colony will begin. It took my father 16 years and now we have a very good colony every year.
