Last nest check I found an egg out of the nesting compartment and laying in the compartment where they enter. It had a hole in it.
Today I found another compartment that had 6 eggs now had five. One appeared to have a hole in it.
I have not sighted any sparrows.
Wassup?

- Martin Colony History: The 1972 St. Agnes flood wiped out all the Martins in my area. One day, in 1997-98, 5 or 6 Martins landed on the power wires crossing my back yard. I had no house for them. They kept coming back day after day. We got a martin house a few weeks later & they have been coming back every year since. I average 12-15 pair per year.
Could be a SY Male. They will often destroy eggs, remove or kill chicks. Not much you can do.
Starlings & House Sparrows will do this too, so keep them under control/ gone.
Also parents will roll a bad egg to the front if it's bad. However they usually don't destroy it. They will remove bad eggs too, but my guess is the above I posted.

Do you have House Wrens nesting nearby?
I don't know if they will move an egg (but I don't see why not?) but I do know, from sad experience, that they will poke very small holes (pinning) in other bird's eggs.
